How to claim a wrong or damaged Meesho return (and not get rejected)

By Gokulkumar Gadhethariya, founder · 11 years in online sellingUpdated 7 Nov 20264 min read

Short answer

Raise the claim within 7 days of the return being delivered to you, from Support in the supplier panel. Upload an unboxing video recorded in one take that shows the sealed packet, the label with AWB and order ID, the barcode, and the packet being opened on camera, plus photos of the product and waybill. Most rejected claims fail on the video, so the recording matters more than anything else.

Which Meesho returns can you claim?

After a return or RTO reaches you, you can raise a claim when the product inside is not what you shipped or is not fit to sell again. Meesho groups them like this:

Claim typeWhen to use it
Wrong productA different product came back, or a different variant or colour
DamagedThe product is torn, broken, stained or otherwise not sellable
UsedThe product was used, washed or has its tags removed
Missing quantityOne or more items are missing from the return, or the packet is empty
RTO: wrong product in barcoded packageAn RTO came back in Meesho packaging with a different product inside

For RTO claims, Meesho requires its branded packaging: an RTO without it is treated as intact. The video must show the 15-digit QR code on the packet, and the QR and AWB must match what was scanned at dispatch.

How many days do you have to claim?

Meesho’s return policy and its shipment-acceptance SOP both say 7 days from delivery of the return to you. Some seller blogs quote 15 days or more; the official documents say 7, so treat 7 days as the deadline.

Returns take time to travel back (around 25 days from pickup for a customer return, longer for an RTO), so the 7 days start only when the parcel actually reaches you. Open and record every return the day it arrives.

The unboxing video rules

Meesho’s shipment-acceptance SOP sets out what the video must show. Follow every point:

  • Start recording before the packet is opened. A packet opened before recording is not accepted as a genuine claim.
  • Record in one stretch, slowly and steadily. No cuts and no edited videos.
  • Keep the file under 25 MB: Meesho does not accept a bigger video.
  • Show the label clearly with the AWB number and order ID, and the barcode (for both returns and RTOs).
  • Show all sides of the packet, and point the camera at any torn or re-taped part.
  • Keep the whole packet in frame, stretch and twist the edges to show the seal, then cut it open and show the product clearly.

Along with the video, upload a photo of the product and of the waybill, and mark the shipment condition as Intact or Tampered.

Accepting the return: OTP and tampered packets

Returns are delivered with an OTP for digital proof of delivery. Accept every return: a refused shipment is disposed of and can no longer be claimed.

If the outer packet is torn, has extra non-courier tape, or a label cut and pasted from another parcel, write “Tampered/Disputed” on the e-POD before giving the OTP. Without that remark, the shipment is treated as delivered intact, which weakens a later claim.

How to raise the claim

  1. Step 1: Open Support

In the supplier panel, go to Support and the Return / RTO & Exchange section.

  2. Step 2: Pick the exact claim type

Wrong, damaged, used or missing. Around one in ten rejections happen because the claim was filed under the wrong type.

  3. Step 3: Upload the evidence

Unboxing video, sub-order number, product photo and waybill photo, and the shipment condition.

  4. Step 4: Track and reopen if needed

Review takes about 3–7 working days. Track it in Claim Tracking, and reopen the ticket with better evidence if it is rejected.

Meesho allows one claim per sub-order, and approved claims are paid at a fair value based on your category, not your selling price, within about 7 working days. They show under Compensation and Recoveries.

Why Meesho claims get rejected

ReasonHow to avoid it
Video does not meet the rules (the largest share)Record before opening, in one take, with label, AWB and barcode visible
“Correct product delivered”Show the product next to the label so the mismatch is clear
Wrong claim type chosenMatch the type exactly: wrong, damaged, used or missing
Filed after 7 daysOpen and record returns the day they arrive
Shipment refused or accepted without a tampered remarkAccept every return; mark tampered packets on the e-POD
High claim or return rate on the accountClaim only real cases, with full evidence

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How many days do I have to raise a Meesho return claim?

Meesho’s policy says 7 days from the delivery of the return to you. Open and record each return the day it arrives.

Is an unboxing video compulsory for a Meesho claim?

Yes. The video must start before the packet is opened, run in one take without cuts, show the label with AWB and order ID, the barcode and the product, and be no bigger than 25 MB.

How much does Meesho pay for an approved claim?

A fair value based on your category, not necessarily your selling price, usually within about 7 working days of approval. It appears under Compensation and Recoveries.
